N+1 Connectivity

South Hill Seattle features its own meet-me room where data center users can interconnect with multiple Tier 1 and Tier 2 carriers.

Colocation Northwest's point of presence network, spans the U.S. West Coast, giving colocation users access to national and international routes with high-throughput, low latency connectivity to Asia-Pacific, Canada, Europe and the Americas.

The South Hill Seattle data center connects to the Westin Building Exchange, a major carrier hotel, via dark optical fiber. Additional lit fiber paths connect South Hill Seattle to the Pittock Building carrier hotel in Portland and to the One Wilshire carrier hotel in Los Angeles.

This network features access to multiple meet-me rooms, with over 250 carriers, network service providers and internet service providers inside the Westin building alone, and to transpacific cable landings in Washington and Oregon.

Our data centers inside the Westin building feature additional carriers including PCCW Global, a true Tier 1 carrier with deep global reach, perfect for organizations in need of transpacific connectivity.

Power and Cooling

South Hill Seattle supports high-density computing with 150 watts to 260 watts per square foot, delivering up to 35 kilowatts per cabinet. To achieve a high-power usage effectiveness, the data center employs state-of-the-art evaporative cooling. Both systems are N+1 redundant.

Power

Colocation Northwest's South Hill Seattle data center has superior power management systems that are USGBC LEED Gold Certified. Our primary South Hill facility has over 40 megawatts of available power with additional on-campus buildings for custom buildout and additional power availability.

South Hill Seattle houses high performance computing systems offering over 35 kilowatts a cabinet. Power is delivered via a dedicated, dual-fed 50-megawatt substation supplied by renewable hydroelectric and wind generation sources. If additional electricity is needed the substation can be expanded.

Our South Hill uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems offer true N+1 redundancy as do our backup generation systems, so your critical load needs are fully covered regardless of any event.

Cooling

Our advanced, highly efficient evaporative cooling systems provides maximum availability of cooling to your equipment with a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) ratio of 1.3. Utilizing 100% of the outside air efficiencies provided by the temperate climate of the Pacific Northwest, our N+1 redundant cooling system offers a savings of more than 35% in energy and maintenance costs over similar data centers in the south and California.

Our cooling solution ensures your equipment is always at the right temperature and available to reach its maximum computing capabilities without issue. Colocation Northwest's data center has a dual-fed, 2 million gallon a day supply of water provided by two separate municipal sources ensuring fully redundant capability and operation.

Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity

From the outset, South Hill Seattle was constructed to be an exemplary disaster recovery and business continuity site, ideal for housing remote backups or a failover operation. Architects designed the facility to meet the demanding standards of microchip manufacturers.

Independent geotechnical engineers rate the facility to withstand a magnitude 9 earthquake originating from the Cascadia subduction zone. Buildings exceed seismic code specifications by 25%. The foundations sit on bedrock, safe from soil liquefaction and splintering, over 20 miles from the closest known fault line.
